Chaitra Navratri 2023: Date, time, significance, and foods to eat during the festival

The holy festival of Chaitra Navratri is around the corner and it’s those 9 days when people soak themselves in all things religious and worship 9 avatars of Goddess Durga and pray for happiness, health, and prosperity in life.

This festival begins on the first day of the Hindu Lunisolar calendar and falls in the month of March/April. As per Drik Panchang, Pratipada Tithi of the Chaitra month will begin on March 21 at 10:52 PM and end on the next day i.e, March 22 at 08:20 PM. This year Chaitra Naratri begins on March 22 and ends on March 30. As per Panchang, the auspicious time for Kalash Sthapana will be from 6:29 am to 07:39 am on 22 March 2023. Total Duration: 1 hour 10 minutes.

Significance of Chatra Navrati

The significance of the festival is that it is the triumph of good over evil and is celebrated over 9 days. During these 9 days, people follow sattvik diet and avoid alcohol, smoking, egg, meat, onion, and garlic. Those who fast consume sattvik bhojan, fruits, vegetables, and milk and avoid grains, cereals and legumes.

The festival begins with kalash sthapna, for which people use a clay pot, spread some soil on the floor, and sow wheat grains. Fill the pot with Ganga jal, add cloves, supari, and a coin in it. Dip a small stem of mango leaves in it. Then tie raksha sutra on a coconut and place it on top of the pot.
