HYDERABAD: PM Narendra Modi on Saturday mocked the move of 14 opposition parties to approach Supreme Court against the Centre for allegedly misusing CBI and Enforcement Directorate for political reasons.

“Some parties went to court to seek protection from prosecution for their corruption a few days ago. These people don’t want anyone to open their corruption books, but the court dealt them a jolt,” he said at a public meeting at Hyderabad’s Parade Ground after inaugurating road, health, and infrastructure projects worth Rs 11,000 crore in Telangana

The top court, rejecting the petition filed by all major parties, including Congress and BRS, had said political leaders were not entitled to greater immunity than ordinary citizens.

Modi did not bring up Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter and BRS MLC K Kavitha, who is being investigated by the ED in the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam, but said, “The country has made tremendous strides in development in the last 25 years, but these are critical years for Telangana. Please be cautious of such people, they will decide your fate.”

He also said that corruption and dynastic politics were indistinguishable because “bhai-bhatijavad” initiated corruption.

“They want to be in charge of everything. They dislike any challenge to their control,” he said. “They have three motives: first, their family can rule; second, through corruption money comes to the family; and three, money meant for the poor enters their corrupt ecosystem. But Modi has put an end to it all today,” he said, adding that before he introduced the direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme, no one wanted it “because they wanted to feed their ecosystem”.

Modi had earlier in the day inaugurated the 12th Vande Bharat train in the country, which will run from Secunderabad to Tirupati. This is also the second Vande Bharat train from Secunderabad. Top BRS politicians and the Telangana Congress have consistently accused the Centre of not keeping its various promises to the state, including those made during the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh in 2014.

“We are committed to development work,” he said “But a few people have become irritated by our development efforts. They are not interested in the development of the country. They only seek to benefit the family. Telangana must be extremely cautious of such individuals. It saddens me that many of the Centre’s projects in Telangana are being delayed due to the state government’s lack of cooperation. I urge the state government not to obstruct development efforts.”

“Telangana’s people, tell me, should we not fight corruption,” he asked the large gathering. “These parties are now in disarray. Our motto is ‘Sab ka saath, sab ka vikas’, and please everyone,” he added. “But here, appeasement politics works differently. When the oppressed and the poor benefit, that is the real Constitution at work.”
