Haven’t updated Aadhaar for 10 years? Here’s what you need to do right away

You can update your Aadhaar both online and offline. According to UIDAI, one can easily update demographic details – like name, date of birth, gender and address – online.

Aadhaar Update Alert: Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number, issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The Aadhaar card is currently one of the most important documents and therefore it is very important to have all the latest information updated on it. But there are people who have never got their Aadhaar updated ever since it was issued by the statutory body. 

According to the latest notification issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, it is mandatory for every individual to update his or her Aadhaar details after 10 years. 

“Aadhaar holders may, on completion of every 10 years from the date of enrolment for Aadhaar, update their supporting documents in Aadhaar, at least once, by submitting Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents as specified under Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulation 10 hereinabove, so as to ensure the continued accuracy of their information in the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR), in such manner as may be specified by the Authority from time to time,” a notification stated.

According to UIDAI, it is important to update Aadhaar details as it facilitates ease of living.  

How to update Aadhaar? 

You can update your Aadhaar both online and offline. According to UIDAI, one can easily update demographic details – like name, date of birth, gender and address – online. For this, one can simply visit myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.

“To update Aadhaar by uploading documents online, one will have to pay a fee of Rs 25 and Rs 50 for offline,” UIDAI had tweeted.

Step-by-step guide to update Aadhaar online 

Step 1: Click on myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. You will be required to click on ‘Login’.

Step 2: Enter your Aadhaar number and captcha code. Click on ‘Send OTP’. A one-time password (OTP) will be sent to your registered mobile number.

Step 3: Login and select ‘Update Aadhaar Online’.

Step 4: Read the instructions and click on ‘Proceed to update Aadhaar’.

Step 5: Select the data field you want to update. Do keep in mind you will be required to upload the proof of new address to be updated in Aadhaar card. Click on ‘Proceed to update Aadhaar’.

Step 6: Submit the request if the details are correct.

You will be redirected to the payment portal. You will be required to pay Rs 50 for updating of address.
