On Instagram, vastu consultant Akshit Kapoor shared that as the neem tree promotes health and well-being, it should be planted in a house in a quaint northwest corner.

“The neem tree is a plant that promotes good energy and is very popular owing to its health-curing properties. According to vastu, you should plant a neem tree in the northwest corner of your house,” the post on Vastulogy read.

Neem, considered a natural air purifier, is said to have medicinal properties. Experts suggest that its leaves, bark, and roots all contain compounds that have anti-microbial properties, which can help improve the air quality of the surrounding area.

As such, in vastu shastra, neem tree is also associated with good health and longevity, said Vastu Acharya Manoj Shrivastava.

“It is believed that having a neem tree on one’s property can help ward off diseases and promote overall wellbeing,” he said.

However, the placement of the neem tree is also crucial in Vastu, he added.

Shrivastava mentioned that neem should be planted in the eastern or northern side of the property. “The east is associated with new beginnings and the north is associated with prosperity, so planting the tree in either of these directions can bring positive energy to the property. Also, note that the energies of Lord Dhanvantri – the creator of Ayurveda — is present in these directions,” he said.

He, however, cautioned against placing neem tree in the south or southwestern part of the property. “This is because the south is associated with fire and the southwest is associated with earth, both of which are not compatible with the neem tree’s energy,” he said.

So, should it be planted right inside the house?

Plant a neem tree at a distance from the house but on the property itself. “It is recommended to plant the tree at least 20 feet away from the house to avoid any negative effects on the energy of the home However, in absence of an open area one should avoid neem plant in the house, said vastu expert Divvya Chhabra. “It is not auspicious for people with unruly Mars due to its bitter tasting properties,” she said.
