Motorola confirms launch of folding phone on June 1, new Razr Flip incoming

Motorola has confirmed the launch of its next-gen folding flip smartphone on June 1. The company has teased the phone on Twitter and other social media, though some speculate the company may launch two flip phones. However, some reports suggest that the company is expected to launch one flip phone but under different monikers for different. The company may call it Motorola Razr 40 Ultra or Razr 2023 in different markets.

The company is yet to clarify specifications and design, but we can expect more information in the coming days. Earlier this year, 91Mobiles with tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore shared a leaked image of the Motorola Razr 2023, also may be called Razr 40 Ultra. In the leaked photo, the phone appears slimmer than its previous generation flip phones. The image also highlights a pink body and two camera sensors on the outer screen. It appears that the company may also increase the viewing area on the outer pane.

In terms of processing power, we can expect the phone to include Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC since the last Razr flip phone included a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC. The company also improve the camera system. The previous model includes a 50-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), a 13-megapixel secondary rear camera with an ultra-wide angle lens, and a 32-megapixel front camera.

Similar to Samsung, Motorola has launched multiple generations of flip smartphones, but the last few models were restricted to China. This time, Motorola’s global handle announced the launch of 2023 models. While the company has not clarified the launch for the Indian market, we can expect its arrival later since many OEMs have turned to the country to expand their footprint in the folding segment. 

Folding flip smartphones have become quite popular lately with Oppo becoming the latest entrant in the segment with the Oppo Find N Flip. Samsung has already launched three generations of Galaxy Z Flip phones, the latest being the Z Flip 4 and Flip 5 around the corner. Tecno also launched its most affordable foldable smartphone in India last month.

Motorola too lauched its orginal Razr in India in 2020 for Rs 1,24,999. It is still listed on the Motorola India website for the same price tag, but the stock remains unavailable. If Motorola decides to launch a new flip phone in India, it may go with the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. The company is set to launch the Motorola Edge 40 in the country later this month. The price may also be dropped to the Rs 80,000 mark to compete with other brands that offer flip phones in a similar range.
