How to check EPF balance using UAN number on Umang App: A step-by-step guide

To check your  Employees’ Provident Fund balance on the UMANG app, all you need is your UAN number. You can enter the UAN to login to the app and view your PF passbook.  

The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is a savings scheme introduced by the central government. Workers can accumulate retirement benefits in this scheme. Both the employer and employee contribute a set sum to the EPF fund. If you want to check your EPF balance, there are several ways to do so. You can use the UMANG app to get to know your EPF balance. All you need to initiate the process is your Universal Account Number (UAN). The UAN is a 12-digit number given to each employee by the Employee Provident Fund Organisation.

EPF balance: How to check using UMANG app

  • Go to Google Play Store/ Apple App Store to download the UMANG App.
  • Open the app and select your language.
  • Register yourself using your mobile number.
  • Choose EPFO from the list of options visible on your mobile phone.
  • Select ‘View Passbook’ and enter your UAN.
  • You will get a one-time password (OTP).
  • Enter the OTP to login. Follow the steps given on the app to view your EPF balance.
  • Apart from the UMANG app, you can check your EPF balance via missed calls and SMS.

How to check EPF balance using SMS

  • Open Messages on your phone.
  • Type in EPFOHO followed by your UAN number and the first three letters of your language preference. For English, you need to type ENG.
  • Send the message to 7738299899.
  • Keep in mind that you need to send the message from the same mobile number that is registered with your UAN. If you send the SMS from another number, the EPFO will not reveal your PF balance.

How to check EPF balance using missed call

  • Give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile number. The phone will cut after two rings.
  • The EPFO will send your PF balance via text message.

EPF balance: How to check your UAN?

  • In case you have forgotten your UAN, you can visit unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in to check the number.
  • Click on the ‘Know your UAN’ option on the main page.
  • Enter the details required like your EPF account number and member ID.
  • You will get an authorisation PIN.
  • Enter the PIN number.
  • The UAN will be sent on your registered mobile number.

If your UAN has not been activated, you can click on ‘Activate Your UAN’ and follow the steps mentioned by the EPFO.
