2023 is SO Shah Rukh Khan’s year! After starring in the highest grosser of Indian cinema aka Pathaan back in January, the megastar is all set to drop two new movies throughout the rest of the year. And yep, Dunki is one of them.
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, SRK and the filmmaker will be coming together for the first time for Dunki. And, seems like streaming giants already have had their eyes on the much-awaited project. Can you guess where the film will be released online?
Dunki sells streaming rights
For context, Dunki has zeroed in on December 22 as its release date in theatres. After its theatre run wraps up, the movie will be available for streaming on – Jio Cinema. Yep, that’s right! As per reports, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance-owned JioCinema just bought the OTT rights for Dunki for a whopping Rs 155 crore.
As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, “This is the biggest deal in the history of Indian Cinema for a film released in a single language. It has got a lot to do with the brand of Rajkumar Hirani coming together with the brand of Shah Rukh Khan.”

The source further added, “Two of India’s biggest global icons are coming together to create a film that is expected to create a global impact, which has in turn resulted in the biggest post-theatrical deal of all time. Rs 155 crores is a huge sum but the SRK x Hirani combo deserves this and a lot more. The amount fetched by Dunki is even higher than what Jawan fetched for the Hindi version from Netflix.”

Shah Rukh Khan’s 2023 projects
SRK has been booked and busy this year. Apart from Pathaan, the superstar has Atlee-directed Jawan lined up for theatrical release on September 7. Three months after Jawan, social comedy Dunki will drop in theatres right before the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Moreover, Dunki is also Rajkumar Hirani’s comeback to directing after five long years. The film is all set to star Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles. Buzz suggests the movie revolves around the backdoor route adopted by immigrants to enter a foreign country.
