WhatsApp tip: How to quickly edit messages on the app

WhatsApp just recently rolled out the ability to edit messages in addition to features like the option to let you lock your super personal chats and log in to WhatsApp on multiple phones. The latest one — Edit button — lets WhatsApp users make changes to a message, but there is a certain time limit and one can’t edit the feature at any time. Whether it’s a typo, a misplaced word, or a misunderstood statement, the ability to make corrections can save users from embarrassment or misunderstanding.

The feature is available to everyone and is visible immediately. If you aren’t on the latest version of WhatsApp you will not receive the edited message and the platform will place a notice. “This message was edited for everyone in this chat on the latest version of WhatsApp.” Hence, you will be required to update the app to see edited messages.

This feature is better than using the delete option because people can quickly correct a few errors instead of removing the whole message and writing it again. One can always choose to delete a message as WhatsApp offers both the options to a user. Here is how you can quickly edit a message on the app.

What to keep in mind?

Do keep in mind that the messaging platform will give you only a 15-minute window to let you edit your message. After this, you won’t have any option to make changes and you will have to delete the message if you accidentally make a mistake in your text.

It is also important to keep in mind that editing a message won’t send a new chat notification to people in your chat, which basically means that the recipient won’t get to know if you have changed or edited a message unless you do that quickly. The messaging platform offers you the ability to edit photos, videos, or other types of media or captions. The feature is available for both iOS and Android users.
