Railways reduces train ticket prices but what will happen to your previously booked tickets? Know here

The Ministry of Railways has recently launched a 25 per cent discount scheme on AC chair car and executive class fares of all trains with air-conditioned seating facilities including the Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches. The responsibility of introducing the Concessional Fare Scheme in trains has been entrusted with the Zonal offices for the purpose of maximum utilization of space in trains.

So what will happen if you have already booked your tickets for these trains?

Well, in case if you have already booked the tickets for these trains you won’t get any refund for the tickets bought by you.

The scheme will be applicable in AC chair car and executive classes of all trains with air-conditioned seating including Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches. The discount will be a maximum of 25 per cent on the basic fare. Other charges like reservation fee, super fast surplus, GST etc., as applicable, will be levied separately. This relaxation can be given in any or all the categories depending on the filling of seats.

Trains with less than 50 per cent seat occupancy during the last 30 days will be taken into account and this concession will be given for the first leg of the journey or the last leg of the journey or the intermediate sections or from the point of departure to the destination, provided that less than 50 percent of the seats in that leg, section, from the point of departure to the destination are filled.

In case of trains where flexi fare scheme is applicable in a particular class and seats are less filled, the flexi fare scheme may be withdrawn initially as a measure of fill up seats. In case, even this procedure doesn’t work, only then this discount scheme would be implemented in those trains.

The scheme will be applicable for a period of one year. However, it will not be applicable on special trains run as holiday, festival special etc.
