Schools in 6 districts in Delhi to stay closed for another two days

NEW DELHI: Government, government-aided and private schools in six flood-affected districts will remain closed for next two days. The closure notice, issued by the Directorate of Education, is for schools located in the East, North East, North West-A, North, Central and South East districts.

There are 13 education districts in the city.

“In view of the flood-relief camps likely to continue to run in schools in the areas bordering Yamuna, all schools (government, government-aided and private recognised) in the affected districts of DoE – East, North East, North West-A, North, Central and South East districts – shall remain closed for students on July 17 and 18 2023 (that is, Monday and Tuesday). Wherever feasible, schools may arrange online classes,” the circular issued by DoE stated.

At Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya School, Shakarpur, about 140 people have sought refuge.

The MCD, meanwhile, announced that except 17 of its schools, all others would hold classes from Monday. In 13 of its schools, relief camps have been set up, while the four others are closed due to waterlogging. For students of these schools, online classes will be conducted,

The closed schools are l cated in Narela, Civil Lines, Shahdara North, Shahdara South, Karol Bagh and Central zones.

All school’s government, government-aided and private in the remaining districts of DoE — North West-B, West-A, West-B, South, South West-A, South West-B and New Delhi will remain reopen on Monday. The heads of schools have been given the liberty to run in physical or hybrid mode, in accordance with the convenience of their students.

The principal of a private school told TOI that the institute would resume physical classes from Monday. “Our school is not in a low-lying area and now the situation in other areas is also improving. For us, re-opening the school is not a problem,” said Jyoti Arora, principal of Mount Abu Public School.

The DoE circular, however, added that from Wednesday, all schools will function normally.
