How to apply for minor’s passport online, know step-by-step process

Apassport is the most important document for anyone willing to travel abroad. For minors who wish to accompany their parents or guardians abroad, obtaining a passport is mandatory. Thanks to digitisation, one can apply for a passport from home.

Documents needed to apply for a minor’s passport in India:

Birth certificate

Aadhaar card or proof of address of parent(s)

Passport of both parents (if available)

Proof of nationality of both parents (if the child was born outside of India)

Here is the step-by-step guide to apply for a minor’s passport online in India:

Step 1: Register the minor on the Passport Seva Website (https://portal2.passportindia.gov.in/)

Step 2: Create a login ID and password

Step 3: Fill in the application form

Step 4: Once you have submitted the application form successfully, make the payment.

Step 5: After paying the application fee, you will need to schedule an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). You need to carry all of your original documents, including the application form and fee receipt when visiting the PSK for your appointment.

Step 6: You need to take your child to the Passport Seva Kendra on the day of the appointment. A passport officer will review your application and documents to ensure that everything is in order. Following this, the application will be accepted and the passport will be processed. In case of an issue with the application, you will be notified.

Step 7: After the application is submitted, you can track the status of your child’s passport online using the application reference number given at the time of submission. 

Step 8: Once the child’s passport is ready, you will be notified. You can either pick it up in person or have it delivered to your home address.

Other important points to note:

The application fee for a minor’s passport is Rs. 1,000. This fee can be paid online using a debit or credit card, or through net banking;

A minor’s passport is valid for five years or until the child reaches the age of eighteen, whichever comes first;

A 10-year passport is only issued following a police verification.
