Getting A New Debit Or Credit Card? You Won’t Be Able To Transact Without Doing THIS

Are you getting a new debit or credit card for yourself or any of your family members? Well, then here’s something you need to be aware of. Whenever, you are getting a new debit or credit card for yourself, you need to set the card transaction control limit at the time of its issuance. This means that the respective debit or credit card cannot be used for any online or offline transactions without first enabling the card control options in the bank’s control system through net banking, mobile app or at the branch.

“These changes (card controls) were designed to enhance the security of card transactions and give users more control over how their cards are used. Under the new guidelines, card users can now choose whether to opt in or out of payment modes such as international transactions, online purchases, and contactless payments, set spending limits for different types of transactions, and decide whether they want to allow their cards to be used for domestic or international transactions,” says Sajish Pillai, MD & Head – Assets and Strategic Alliances, Consumer Banking Group, DBS Bank India to The Economic Times.

How to Activate a debit or credit card for online usage?

Whenever a new debit card or credit card is issued, the card control mechanism is switched off by default. This means that the said debit or credit card cannot be used anywhere online or offline without switching the transaction controls on.

It can be done through the bank’s net banking or mobile banking where one needs to visit the bank’s portal or download the mobile banking app, log into their account and set the transaction limit.

However, if an individual has forgotten to enable their card control mechanism and is unable to use the banks Net Banking or mobile banking due to any issues, they can visit their bank’s branch in any state in India to enable or disable transaction limits.
