Market Holidays in October 2023: NSE, BSE to remain closed for 11 days; check full list

In the month of October, the domestic equity market will remain closed for trading for a total of 11 days, including four Saturdays and five Sundays. As per the market holidays list available on stock exchanges, trading on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE, there will be two non-operational days this month apart from Saturdays and Sundays.

The domestic stock markets were closed on October 2 on account of Gandhi Jayanti. The markets will also remain shut on October 24 on account of Dussehra.

On these holidays trading across the equity, equity derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments will remain closed. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also remain closed for both morning and evening sessions on all holidays.Here is a full list of the stock market holidays in October 2023:

  • October 1: Sunday
  • October 2: Gandhi Jayanti (Monday)
  • October 7: Saturday
  • October 8: Sunday
  • October 14: Saturday
  • October 15: Sunday
  • October 21: Saturday
  • October 22: Sunday
  • October 24: Dussehra (Tuesday)
  • October 28: Saturday
  • October 29: Sunday

Apart from the weekends, the stock markets operate on all weekdays from Monday to Friday. Additionally, the mentioned holidays are declared in view of the various national and regional festivals.

In total, there were 15 market holidays in 2023. However, after October, there will be only three market holidays, as per the National Stock Exchange (NSE) website. The upcoming holidays in November and December are: November 14: Diwali Balipratipada (Tuesday)

  • November 27: Gurunanak Jayanti (Monday)
  • December 25: Christmas (Monday)

The holidays falling on Saturdays or Sundays are not mentioned in the above list. The stock exchanges will open on November 12 (Tuesday) for one hour for a special ‘muhurat’ trading session on the occasion of Diwali.
