Weather Update: IMD predicts heavy rainfall over West Bengal, Sikkim and THESE states – check complete forecast

IMD in its latest report informed that the southwest monsoon is expected to continue its withdrawal from northern India.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of the east, northeast and other parts of the country. According to the meteorological department, heavy showers are likely in the northeast region over the next 24 hours.

As per the daily ‘Mausam’ report by the IMD, a low-pressure area situated in the western region of Gangetic West Bengal is projected to gradually shift northeastward over the next two days.

There are no significant weather events expected in parts of West and South India for the next five days.

Delhi records cooler-than-usual temperatures

On the other hand, Delhi residents are experiencing cooler-than-usual temperatures with mercury plummeting to 19.4 degrees Celsius. The Air Quality Index in the National Capital was recorded at 177, indicating moderate levels of pollution, as per Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Region-wise weather forecast 

In East India, there is a rainfall warning with expectations of light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning. Isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on October 5-6, as well as in Jharkhand, Bihar, and Gangetic West Bengal on October 5. Furthermore, these weather conditions are likely to persist over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands from October 5-9.

Moving to Northeast India, a similar pattern of light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning is expected. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Assam & Meghalaya from October 5-7, and over Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, Manipur on October 6. 

In Northwest India, light to moderate scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are forecasted for Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on October 9.

However, in West and South India, there are no significant weather events expected in the region for the next five days.
