Google Brings AQI Updates On Discover For Mobile Just In Time For Delhi Smog: How It Works

Google app on mobile is offering the AQI updates on the feed for your city based on the location access available to your device.

With the onset of Winter around the corner, people in the North of India will be dreading the harmful pollution. Google is preparing itself for the issue in its own way, giving people up-to-date with the AQI in their region with real time updates on mobile.

The company is testing the AQI reading feature in Google Discover that will be available for both Android and iPhone users. The AQI reading will be provided in a card below the search tab on Discover which opens when you right swipe on your Android phone’s home screen.

You can get the Discover tab via the Google app on Android or iOS, where the app is available by default on the former, while you have to download it on the latter. You can also customise the settings of the Discover card letting you get updates on sports matches, weather in your city which includes the AQI details as well.

You can also tap on the AQI card to get more details about the pollution level in your city. It doesn’t seem to be limited to select countries and we independently checked for the feature which was available after updating the Google app on Android.

If you have subscribed to multiple updates on Discover then you have to swipe to the left to see the AQI readings in your region which is picked up based on the location access available to the Google app on your phone. Google has made a habit of localising features based on the trends and even seasons to some extent. Search on Google now allows people to get answers from generative AI.

In fact, when you search for a topic or any update, Google gives you the option to an AI-powered overview for a search content. This feature is not available publicly and you have to sign up with Google to get the option in Search which is being offered to most people using Google services.
