ICC ODI World Cup 2023 semifinals race is heating up and South Africa’s 149-run win over Bangladesh saw them leapfrog New Zealand to move into second place on the points table. Rohit Sharma-led Indian team remain top, whereas the Kiwis dropped to third, and Australia remain in fourth place ahead of their fixture against the Netherlands on Wednesday.

Quinton de Kock smashed a stellar knock of 174 runs, helping the Proteas to a 382-run total, while Bangladesh folded for 233 instead, despite Mahmadullah’s century.

The Indian team remain in the top spot after their fifth consecutive win, they continue to lead the way with ten points. South Africa meanwhile jumped to second place, even though the Proteas are level on 8 points with New Zealand, they have a superior NRR of +2.370 while the Kiwis dropped to third with their NRR of +1.481. Australia meanwhile remain in fourth place having four points but they have a NRR of -0.193 which keeps them ahead of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Babar Azam and Co. are in fifth place with four points, but with an inferior NRR of -0.400, whereas Afghanistan are in sixth place with a NRR of -0.969.

The Netherlands are in seventh place with -0.790 NRR among the bottom four teams who are all tied on two points each. Sri Lanka are eighth with a NRR of -1.048, while England rose to ninth place as Bangladesh’s NRR dipped to -1.253 and saw them slip to tenth place.

Australia will battle it out with the Netherlands on October 25, as the five-time World Cup champions will look to cement their top-four spot.
