Stock Market Updates: Sensex Jumps 200 pts, Nifty Tops 19,200; TaMo Gains 1%

The S&P BSE Sensex opened 337 points higher at 64,450, and was seen hovering around 64,300 in early deals. The Nifty50 index was quoting near the 19,200-level, up 50 points.

Tata Motors was up 2 per cent after the company won an arbitral award of Rs 765.78 crore plus interest as compensation for its investment in Singur, the erstwhile site for the production of the Nano.

Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, HDFC Bank, NTPC and JSW Steel were few of the other prominent movers.

In the broader market, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices gained 0.5 per cent each.

Global Cues

Overnight Wall Street ended with strong gains as crude oil prices dipped and yen rose to a two-week high versus dollar after reports suggested that the Bank of Japan was considering tweaking its yield curve control policy.

Brent Crude Oil prices tumbled over 3 per cent to $86.50-odd levels on Monday. Investors now await cues from the US Federal Reserve for its policy decision on Wednesday.

Cues from the Asia-Pacific region were mixed. Hang Seng and Kospi were down nearly 1 per cent each. Nikkei and Shanghai too were marginally in red, while the S&P/ASX 200 and All Ordinaries were up 0.3 per cent each.
