Humane, an artificial intelligence (AI) company founded by former Apple engineers Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno recently unveiled its first product – an AI pain. Yep, your read that right!

The “Humane AI Pin” is a small, square-shaped device that can be attached to any piece of clothing. The device is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 large language model (LLM) and Microsoft’s AI tools to support the pin’s digital assistant.
How much does Humane AI Pin cost?
The Humane AI Pin is priced at $699 (Rs. 58,289) and comes with the primary small square device and a battery pack that can be magnetically attached to your clothes or other surfaces, the company claims.

For a monthly fee of $24 (Rs. 2,000), the company provides a Humane subscription with a phone number and a data plan through T-Mobile in the US. The device will begin shipping to buyers in early 2024 and pre-orders will begin on November 16, according to Wired.
What does the device contain?
The Humane AI Pin is made up of two components – a tiny square piece and a battery pack that magnetically attaches to your clothes or other surfaces. The most interesting bit of the device is that it comes with no screen and instead has a small project that beams laser icons and texts onto the user’s palm.The device remains inactive until engaged via voice, touch, gesture, or the laser ink display, and of course, manually. The “Trust Light” blinks every time it is collecting data.
How does AI fit into Humane’s device?
The Humane AI Pin is powered by AI tools of Microsoft and OpenAI. The pin runs on a new operating system called Cosmos that is able to route user queries to the appropriate tools without needing the user to download and install third-party apps.
Since there’s no screen, you can talk to the pin or touch it to get information. During an April TED Talk, Chaudhri showcased its capabilities – a caller ID, summarising daily emails, identifying foods and their nutritional value. In addition, the device may be asked specific questions catering to the user’s ongoing usage or work stuff.
The device runs on an undisclosed Snapdragon processor and weighs 34 grams (the “battery booster” pack weighs 20 grams). The device has a 13-megapixel camera and will soon record videos after a software update.

The Humane AI Pin also has a “Personic Speaker” that is adjustable for more personal experiences in groups or outdoors. In addition, there’s also support for Bluetooth headphones.
