OpenAI had introduced the voice and images features in ChatGPT during September but it was available only for Plus and Enterprise users. But the recent change means that even customers, who do not have a paid ChatGPT Plus subscription can now utilise OpenAI’s latest ChatGPT feature, allowing them to engage in full-fledged conversations with the chatbot.

OpenAI posted on X (formally Twitter) about the development stating, “ChatGPT with voice is now available to all free users. Download the app on your phone and tap the headphones icon to start a conversation.”

According to OpenAI, using the ChatGPT voice feature, the platform will now be able to connect with users by utilising five different voices that may be selected based on user preferences. The feature includes five distinct voices: Juniper, Sky, Breeze, Ember, and Cove, which deliver a more human-like and conversational experience, unlike the typical voice assistants like Siri or Alexa.

ChatGPT‘s new voice capabilities are driven by a new text-to-speech engine that OpenAI claims can generate human-like audio from just text and a few seconds of speech samples.
