Apple May Launch Next-Gen MacBook Air With M3 Chip In March 2024: Report

Apple could reveal new MacBook Air models, powered by the M3 chipset around March 2024. Here’s what we know so far.

Apple last updated the MacBook Air lineup earlier this year when the company launched the MacBook Air 15-inch model powered by the M2 chipset. However, apart from the size difference, there was nothing new compared to the 13.6-inch model. Now that Apple has launched its M3 chipsets and M3-powered MacBook Pro models, it makes sense for the iPhone maker to launch new M3-powered MacBook Air models as well.

This is exactly what Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported. Apple will refresh the MacBook Air lineup in March 2024 and come with the M3 chipset. This would result in a computer that is much faster than the outgoing M2 MacBook Air models in both CPU and GPU performance.

It’s also worth mentioning that Apple released its new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in October of this year. These models are powered by the same M3 family of chips. In fact, the base model of the 14-inch MacBook Pro is powered by the base M3 chip, which is also expected to be the SoC powering the new MacBook Air models.

In addition, Gurman claims that Apple could be developing the new models alongside the macOS 14.3 update, which may make its way to supported devices early next year between January and February. However, the M3-powered MacBook Air models are expected to launch around March.

Apple may also release new updated iPad Air and iPad Pro models alongside the MacBook Air, as it has been quite a while since the brand updated the iPad lineup. In fact, Apple did not launch any new iPad in 2023.

With that said, the launch timeframe could always change, and these updates should be taken with a grain of salt until Apple officially makes it official.
