Govt Bans Onion Exports Till March 2024 To Raise Domestic Availability

Export policy of onions is amended from free to prohibited till March 31, 2024

The government has banned exports of onion till March next year, in order to increase domestic availability and to keep prices in check.

“Export policy of onions… is amended from free to prohibited till March 31, 2024,” the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a notification.

Onion prices in October doubled. In the national capital, the prices started inching up from October 25 when the rates were at Rs 40 per kg, which doubled to Rs 80 per kg on October 29.
