Not only has Google unveiled its annual analysis of search trends for 2023, but the tech giant is also marking its 25th anniversary with a special video that delves into the trends of the past 25 years. The time capsule allows viewers to assess their knowledge of pivotal events from the past quarter-century, derived from Google Search activity.

The video, which was shared on micro blogging platform X (formerly Twitter), reflects on the most searched moments of all time, encapsulating the major events that have shaped the world since Google’s inception. The caption accompanying the post reads, “If the last 25 years have taught us anything, the next 25 will change everything. Here’s to the most searched moments of all time. Year In Search.”

Some of the initial categories include Neil Armstrong’s historic moonwalk as the most searched step in history, the 1980s as the most searched decade, and football as the most searched sport. Cristiano Ronaldo takes the spotlight as the most searched athlete, with his iconic Siuuu celebration style making waves.

LeBron James claims the title of the most searched MVP, while Virat Kohli emerges as the most searched cricketer. Pikachu, from the world of Pokémon, secures the position of the most searched character, and Harry Potter reigns as the most searched cast. Homer Simpson represents the most searched character from The Simpsons, and Bollywood stands out as the most searched movie genre.

Musical sensations BTS and Black Pink dominate as the most searched boy band and girl band, respectively. Beyoncé’s performance takes centre stage as the most searched, among many other captivating moments from the past 25 years.

In addition to this video, Google also unveiled its annual Year in Search, a compilation of the top global queries of 2023. Topping the news trends category for the year is the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, according to Google’s global data. This is followed by queries related to the Titanic-bound submersible implosion in June and the devastating earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria in February. Each year, the unveiling of search trends provides insights into what captured the global and regional attention of Google over the past 12 months.
