Meta attempts to boost user experience and add new features to the app. In this endeavour, the company is currently developing an option to let businesses add a verified badge for channels in the beta protocol.

The update is undergoing testing in the Android beta “2.24.1.18” update and may roll out for more users in an upcoming build, according to WABetaInfo. As per the report, the optional “Add verified channel badge” will let businesses add a verified badge to their channels in the future. Currently, it is not rolling out for testers due to its “under development” character.

In an earlier update (Android beta 2.23.20.18), the news outlet reported that WhatsApp plans to replace the green tick with a blue verification badge for verified channels and businesses. The aim was to ensure uniformity across Meta apps in the verification protocol.

“When you add a verified badge to your channel, your channel name and profile picture will change to match your verified business details,” The description text in the “Verified channel” option reads.

Considering the report, this option may be available after a business subscribes to Meta Verified. The speculation is based on Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg’s recent comments that businesses will be able to subscribe to Meta Verified in the future. This subscription may help businesses avail of a verified badge and other benefits. The report noted that the option will likely be optional and limited to business accounts.

Meta may not extend this option to individual and other non-business users. To avail of a verification badge, channel details must align with the business information. A verified badge will help avoid impersonation and misuse of the protocol.

This can help amplify the reach of businesses on WhatsApp and ensure credibility via a verification badge. Users may also be able to explore such businesses via the explore directory. According to the report, it may soon start rolling out for beta users.
