Government steps up Ayushman drive, 30 crore cards issued till January 12

NEW DELHI: With Lok Sabha polls round the corner, the Centre has stepped up enrolment under the Ayushman Bharat – PM Jan Arogya Yojana or AB-PMJAY – the flagship health scheme of the BJP-led government which intends to provide health coverage of Rs 5 lakh to over 60 crore beneficiaries identified based on select deprivation, and occupational criteria, in rural and urban areas respectively, as per SECC database of 2011.

As on Jan 12, 30 crore intended beneficiaries have been issued Ayushman cards, according to government data. “Ayushman card creation is the most fundamental activity under AB-PMJAY, and concerted efforts are being continuously made to ensure that every beneficiary under the scheme has Ayushman card. As a result of the persistent efforts, the scheme has reached the feat of 30 crore Ayushman cards created. More than 16.7 crore Ayushman cards have been created only during the last two financial years,” government said.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the health ministry said, 14.6 crore women have been issued Ayushman cards.

With 4.83 crore Ayushman cards, UP tops the list of states with the highest number of cards issued. MP and Maharashtra stand at number two and three positions with 3.78 crore & 2.39 crore cards respectively.
