Return of Exynos: Samsung puts own chip in Galaxy S24 in India, US variant gets Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

The Samsung Galaxy S24 series was just recently announced in India. The company has introduced three models in its flagship lineup, the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra. And this year again marks the return of the Exynos processors to Samsung’s flagship phones. This time around, Samsung hasn’t offered a Snapdragon chipset with all the models and you get the brand’s in-house Exynos chipset with 2 models.

The top-notch Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is being used by Samsung only in the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which at the price of Rs 1,29,999 is the most expensive of the three phones. The other two S24 phones, including Rs 99,999 S24+, are powered by 4nm Exynos 2400 SoC.

While the company has been offering Exynos chips with some of its lower-priced phones, the Galaxy S series is using it after a long time in India. The last Galaxy S series phone to use Exynos chip was the Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphone, after which the brand offered top-end Snapdragon SoC with flagship phones.

Interestingly, Samsung has opted for a different strategy in the US market. There the company has put the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in all three phones of the Galaxy S24 series.

While we are yet to test the performance of the latest Exynos chip, a YouTuber named NL Tech shared a video comparing the performance of three Galaxy S24 phones. They used popular testing apps to check how well the phones work. In one test, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip had a slight advantage in both single-core and multi-core scores in the Geekbench 6 CPU test. But in the GPU test, where the YouTuber checked the graphics, the Exynos 2400 chip did better.

Another test called AnTuTu showed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 winning in the S24 Ultra, but the difference between the two chips was relatively small. The YouTuber also did a 3D Mark Solar Bay stress test, which checks how well the phones handle advanced graphics. The Exynos-powered S24 and S24+ did better in this test. The S24 Ultra did slightly better in the Wild Life Extreme test, but the Exynos phones were more stable during the test.

It’s important to note that these tests were done on phones with pre-release software, so the scores might change when people use the phones with the final software. You can stay tuned to India Today Tech for all the updates.
