What Is UAN?

The Universal Account Number (UAN) was introduced by the Employees Provident Fund (EPFO). It is a 12-digit number assigned to every employer contributing to EPF. An employee’s UAN remains the same throughout their life, regardless of how many jobs they change. Each time an employee switches jobs, the EPFO assigns a new member identification number (ID), which is then linked to the UAN.
