Big Blow For Mumbai Indians! Reports Suggest Suryakumar Yadav To Sit Out ‘Few More Games’

India and Mumbai Indians’ batter Suryakumar Yadav may take a few more days to get match fit as he continues his recovery from a sports hernia surgery, if reports are to believed. SKY, who plays for Mumbai, has been missing in action in IPL 2024 and his side has lost both its games till now.

Ahead of the season, while Mumbai head coach Mark Boucher didn’t give a definitive fitness update, he didn’t confirm that SKY had been cleared to play by BCCI‘s medical staff either.

SKY last played in December 2023 during the limited-overs leg of India’s tour of South Africa. He picked up an ankle injury while scoring 100 off 56 deliveries in the third T20I in Johannesburg and went on to have two surgeries.

Suryakumar’s recovery ruled him out of the T20I series against Afghanistan at home in January, India’s last international assignment in the format before the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA.

“Surya is making very good progress and very soon he will be back playing for MI. However, he might have to sit out for a few more games, having missed the first two,” a BCCI source told PTI.

While Mumbai are missing SKY, BCCI does not want to take any chances with his fitness as he is expected to play a big role in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA.

“For BCCI, the main concern is if he is on course for World T20 which he is. Obviously he will play for MI but after a sports hernia surgery, he can’t be rushed,” the source said.

SKY often draws comparisons with retired South African superstar AB de Villiers for his range of shots. He has a brilliant strike rate of 171.55 in the shortest format of the game.

SKY has appeared in 60 T20Is for India and has 2141 runs, including four centuries.
