Therefore, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway has introduced the BH or Bharat number plates introduced to help people with transferable jobs. These plates allow car owners to move to any part of India without having to re-register their vehicle.

BH Number Plates – Eligibility

BH stands for Bharat, which means these plates are valid across the country. They are mainly for people who have jobs that require them to move often between states. This includes government employees like officials and bureaucrats who frequently get transferred. Defense personnel also find these plates useful because they move a lot due to their job. Employees of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) who work in multiple states can also use BH plates. Even employees of private companies with offices in at least four states or union territories can get BH series plates, making registration hassle-free during relocations.

BH Number Plates – How To Apply

Getting a BH number plate is quite easy, you can do it online through MoRTH’s Vahan portal or with the help of a car dealer. If you choose the dealer route, they will fill out Form 20 on the Vahan portal for you. Private sector employees working across multiple states need to submit Form 60 along with their employment ID and a work certificate. The State Authorities will check if you qualify for the BH series. During the application, you select the “BH” series type and submit the required documents like the Working Certificate or an official ID card copy. Once approved by the Regional Transport Office (RTO), you can pay the necessary fees or vehicle tax online. The Vahan portal then assigns you a BH series registration number randomly, which is valid in all states of India.

BH Number Plates – Charges

Talking about the charges of the BH or Bharat number plates, is based on the invoice cost of the vehicle and the applicable motor vehicle tax, which is a percentage of the invoice amount. To simplify, if your vehicle costs less than Rs 10 lakh, you’ll pay an 8 per cent tax on the invoice amount.
