CMF by Nothing may soon launch its first ever smartphone: Everything we know about it so far

Nothing’s budget brand CMF is reportedly working on its first ever smartphone. So far, CMF has only launched earbuds and neckbands in India. This would be the first time that the company launches a smartphone in India. Reportedly, the smartphone will be named CMF Phone (1) and will be priced under Rs 15,000. If true, this would be cheaper than any smartphone offered by Nothing. Ahead of the purported launch of the smartphone, a bunch of details about it have leaked.

Reports suggest that the purported CMF Phone (1) will feature a plastic build, and will come in three colour options: orange, white, and black. CMF products usually sport bright colours. The recently launched CMF Buds (review) also come in a funky orange colour.

The CMF smartphone is believed to feature a 6.5-inch display. Reports also suggest that the smartphone will likely feature some form of Gorilla Glass protection over the display. There aren’t a lot of details about the camera setup on the purported CMF Phone (1), however, there are rumours that the smartphone will likely sport a single camera on the rear. If true, this may be slightly disadvantageous for the smartphone, considering other offerings in the sub-Rs 15,000 segment, like the Redmi 12 5G and Samsung Galaxy A05 5G all feature triple camera setups. In fact, the recent Redmi 13C and Poco C55, both of which are priced under Rs 8,000, also feature a dual camera setup at the back.

Additionally, rumours also suggest that the CMF Phone (1) will be powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 5G chipset –– exactly which chipset has not been revealed. The CMF Phone (1) will likely run on Nothing OS.

It is believed that the CMF smartphone will have a 5,000mAh battery, which will support 33W fast charging tech. Interestingly, the recently launched Realme 12X, which is also priced around Rs 12,000, features a 45W fast charging support in the same price segment.

The CMF Phone (1) or whatever the smartphone will officially be called, is currently pretty much just a rumour. There has been no information from the company about the smartphone yet. We have also reached out to Nothing to confirm anything we can about the purported first-ever CMF smartphone. Looking at the rumoured specifications, the Phone (1) seems like a good budget-friendly smartphone. However, Nothing will have to tread carefully in this sub-Rs 15,000 segment, which has lately seen a number of launches from brands like Poco, Realme, Redmi and Samsung. This price segment is already packed with options, and unless the purported CMF Phone (1) offers something different or great value for a customer’s money, it may just get lost in the sea of smartphones in the category.
