ITR Filing:  The deadline for filing an Income Tax Return (ITR) for the financial year 2023-24 and assessment year 2024-25 is July 31, 2024. The process for the same commenced on April 01, with the start of the new financial year.

How to file income tax returns online?

To file ITR online, first, you must visit the official Income Tax website https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/.

– Next, log in using PAN and password.

–  Choose the ‘File Income Tax Return’ option from the home page and select Assessment Year in the next step, If you have to file ITR for Financial Year 2023-24, then you have to choose Assessment Year (AY) 2024-25.

– Next, identify yourself as an individual, HUF, and others from available options. 

–  Select the type of ITR from 7 types of ITR forms. Forms 1 to 4  are for individuals and HUF.

– Next, choose the type and reason for ITR from the options like taxable income more than basic exemption, and specific criteria to be met.

– Now, Pre-filled information needs to be updated. You need to validate your PAN, Aadhaar, name, date of birth, contact information, and bank details.

– Next, Fill details of income, tax, and deduction exemption.
