Complete weekend lockdown in Kerala today and tomorrow – All you need to know

In additional measures, the state government has also banned takeaway from restaurants. Home deliveries have, however, been permitted.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Pinarayi Vijayan government in Kerala has announced stringent measures for June 12-13, in addition to the existing lockdown guidelines which are in place till June 16. The additional measures, imposed over the weekend have barred takeaway parcels from restaurants, even though home delivery is permitted. Construction activities have been allowed following strict COVID-19 norms. Mobile and electronic repairs shops were allowed to open on Friday.

“Additional enhanced stringent restrictions are imposed on 12th and 13 June. On these dates, take away parcels not allowed from hotels. Home delivery of food is permitted. Construction activities following strict social distancing norms are permitted,” the Kerala government said.

Tourist destinations to be ‘vaccinated zones’

Earlier, the state had announced that all the major tourist destinations will be declared ‘vaccinated zones’, as the government is planning to inoculate everyone working in the tourism industry. Speaking in the state Assembly, Tourism Minister PA Mohammed Riyas said that the state is planning to achieve the task of making ‘vaccinated’ tourist zones by July 15.

On Thursday, Kerala recorded 14,424 cases of COVID-19 and 194 deaths, taking the overall caseload to over 26.58 lakh and the death toll to 10,631.

While Thiruvananthapuram has recorded the maximum number of cases, Kollam and Malappuram are the next in line. Over 2.09 crore samples have been tested so far in the southern state. 5,80,417 persons are under observation in the state of which 31,966 are in isolation wards, the state health department said on Thursday.

“Out of those found infected on Thursday, 109 reached the state from outside, while 13,535 contracted the disease through their contacts. The source of infection of 718 are yet to be traced and 62 health workers are also among the infected,” state Health Minister Veena George said in a press release.
