Reopening of schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu; Check out the latest updates here

Tamil Nadu state government started the class 11 admission process early this week.

As COVID cases continue to dip in numbers, the Tamil Nadu state government will take a call on the reopening of schools and colleges. School education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi held a press conference on Monday and said, ‘We cannot accommodate all students in one class. We have to decide on the numbers of students to be allowed per classroom before reopening.’

It’s been more than a year since schools have remained shut now. Recently, the school education department submitted a notice to the state government saying a decision on the reopening of schools and colleges will be taken soon.

No announcements have been made by the state government about resuming offline classes. The Tamil Nadu state government started the class 11 admission process on Monday. The admission process is not taking place in 11 districts for now in Tamil Nadu. These districts include Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthrurai.

The state government has decided to continue with offline classes for schools and colleges. The Tamil Nadu government will consider reopening educational institutions after reviewing the current situation in the state.

As of now, no announcements have been made by the Tamil Nadu government.

The Tamil Nadu CM said, ‘We will take a call on this only after reviewing the situation across the state after witnessing how relaxation will play out. Social distance will be strictly followed.’

Higher secondary schools were reopened for a few weeks in the months of February and March, but soon they were shut as COVID cases increased in the state.
