Jharkhand: FIR against Congress MLA Amba Prasad for obstructing police duty

HAZARIBAG: Hazaribag police on Wednesday night filed an FIR against Congress’s Barkagaon MLA Amba Prasad for aiding eight tractor owners in forcibly taking their seized vehicles, which were carrying illegally mined sand, from the custody of Katkamdag police on Tuesday, police said. Amba, on the other hand, has filed a complaint against the Katkamdag police for misbehaving with her.

Hazaribag SP Karthik S said, “We were compelled to lodge an FIR against the MLA as she openly disrupted the cops at Katkamdag thana from discharging their duties.”

The FIR was filed by the officer in-charge of Katkamdag police station, Bipin Kumar Yadav.

Amba, on the other hand, met the SP and filed a written complaint against the cops for misbehaving with her. Karthik said that he has forwarded the complaint to Mahila thana and directed them to treat it as an FIR. “Investigations are on in connection with both the FIRs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Karthik said that out of the eight tractors which were forcibly taken away by their owners from police possession on Tuesday, seven tractors have been seized by the cops again.

Katkamdag police had seized the eight tractors following an FIR by the circle officer of Barkagaon, Birendra Kumar who had found the vehicles’ owners involved in illegal sand mining in Dhengura forest.

On Tuesday, the eight vehicle owners barged into the Katkamdag police station, demanding that their tractors be released and they even attacked the cops. They then forcibly took their vehicles and in doing so, they were helped by the MLA who reportedly influenced the cops to release their vehicles.

Later, an FIR was lodged against the owners of the eight tractors and 17 others for creating a ruckus at Katkamdag police station.
