Fossil Gen 5E REVIEW: In a bid to gain more customers in the smart wearable market in India, the US-based fashion brand Fossil expanded its wide range of Gen 5 smartwatches with the launch of its new multiple feature-packed Gen 5E smartwatch.

Priced at Rs 18,495, the Fossil Gen 5E is available in two new sizes – 44mm and 42mm. The smartwatch offers an always-on 1.19-inch AMOLED display and limitless options for personalization, including various interchangeable straps and Watch faces, track sleep history, monitor restfulness, set activity goals and much more. We used the Gen 5E Smartwatch Black Silicone variant for more than two weeks and here’s what I have to say about this smartwatch from Fossil.

Fossil Gen 5E is powered with Wear OS by Google, Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor, new wellness enhancements, advanced sensors various smart battery modes inclusive of daily mode, extended mode, time only mode and custom mode, users can always stay connected with notifications for calls, texts and apps among others.

The watch comes with the general round dial and the overall design and new look of this smartwatch is impressive. Weighing just 4.23 ounces with 12mm thickness, the Fossil Gen 5E Watch is extremely light, making it comfortable during work out and it is indeed a perfect companion for the wrist all day long. This multi-tasking smartwatch gives premium look on your wrist. Overall, this smartwatch from Fossil has almost ticked all the right boxes in terms of design and looks.

The Fossil Gen 5E offers an always-on 1.19-inch AMOLED display, Thanks to the AMOLED display, the smartwatch provided sharp and clear visuals indoors, as well as under direct sunlight. In terms of brightness, the display worked well in various light conditions. The touchscreen features a higher resolution and worked smoothly. We didn’t find any lag here. The Fossil Gen 5E works with phones running the latest version of Android or iOS.

Once connected, you can easily read incoming alerts and messages directly on the screen. I used Always-On-Display (AOD) mode almost every time and I personally liked it. However, users must note that AOD mode eats a lot of battery. Once fully charged, the smartwatch lasted for more than four days on heavy usage and as I mentioned above I kept the AOD mode on during the review period.

The good thing about the Fossil Gen 5E is that the smartwatch is not complex and the company has applied only one single button on the right of the device for easy access. The button work as the power button, Google Assistant, and for the main applications which include – settings, alarm, fit heart rate, agenda, alarm, contacts, facer, find my phone, fit breath, and more

As you swipe right, you will see options such as Activity today, heart rate,  recent calls, weather, workout, steps count, google news and several other features. When you swipe left, you will see features like Google Assistant. Swipe down and you’ll find options such as Flight mode, sound, battery, Theater mode, do not disturb mode, brightness settings and main setting while swiping up recent notifications and messages. The watch also comes with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. All of these modes mentioned above worked well during the review period.

While doing basic tasks like doing physical activities, the smartwatch didn’t disappoint at all. The Fossil Gen 5E worked smoothly. One of the major USP of this smartwatch is its battery life and it is very easy to use. Also, this device has been certified to 3ATM standards. This means that it is water-resistant and can track and record movements underwater.

Also, Android and iPhone users can answer tethered calls, hear responses from Google Assistant and get audible alerts with the Gen 5E smartwatch. You can also use Google Assistant to control your Google Nest devices, lights, music and more – right from your wrist.

As I mentioned earlier that this device supports multi-day battery modes. Custom Mode allows users to save and quickly access an individual profile to fit your lifestyle (create a mode for workouts or after-work hours and more). With quick charging (50 minutes to 80 per cent) and enhanced battery modes, Gen 5E can be worn all day and night.

Keywords: Priced at Rs 18,495, the smartwatch can be a decent choice for fitness enthusiasts. For those who are in search of a lightweight, good-looking and multiple-feature fitness smartwatch, the new Fossil’s Gen 5E watch is one such wearable.
