J&K tourism department lines up festivals to attract tourists

In a move to attract tourists in Jammu and Kashmir, the J&K tourism department has lined up various activities, including organising dedicated trekking expeditions and promoting destination festivals.

As per the reports, several roadshows have been organised across major cities of the country to promote tourism-related activities, events, and destinations in Jammu and Kashmir.

During a meeting held to review various activities being undertaken by the Tourism department, it was informed that as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the department will be organising an iconic week celebration in the last week of October this year. The same was chaired by Chief Secretary AK Mehta.

This event will witness performances on Kalam-e-Khusro, Hafiz Nagma, Kalam-e-Baba Fareed, Baul Sufi folk, Qawwali, Haziri Kathak, and Dervish Sufi dance, along with literary seminar on Sufism, and exhibition of calligraphy, local arts, and Sufi traditions.

Reports have it that the tourism department is all geared up to promote destination-festivals like Pahalgam Winter Festival, Sonamarg Autumn Festival, Gulmarg Snow Festival, Khadinyar Cultural Festival, Basohli Art Festival, Mata Vaishnodevi Sangeet Sammelan, Kishtwar Saffron Plucking Festival and much more.

Further, to promote this region for tourism, autumn and houseboat festivals, Winter Carnival, and much more will be organised.

To promote rural tourism, the department informed that specific activities will be organised across the rural circuits of Jammu and Kashmir, including Nowgam Mawar-Lolab in Kupwara, Hokersar-Parihaspora-Gohan in Gulmarg, Saderkoot Payeen- Watlab in Bandipora, and Chari-Sharief-Doodhpathri-Yousmarg in Budgam.
