Goa: SRW conducts speed trial run of new second track

MARGAO: Speed trial run on the newly-laid second track on the Margao-Chandor-Curchorem (Sanvordem) section of the South Western Railway (SWR) was conducted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) Thursday evening. The train clocked a speed of 124 kmph during the trial run, chief PRO, SWR, Hubbali, Aneesh Hegde said.

The Margao-Chandor-Curchorem (Sanvordem) section is a part of the Hospet-Hubli-Tinaigat-Vasco double tracking project.

Earlier in the day, A K Rai, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Southern Circle, Bangalore, conducted trolley inspection of the 15.64 km second railway line. The motor trolley inspection began from Curchorem railway station and ended at Margao railway station. Divisional railway manager, Hubbali, SWR, Arvind Malkhede, general manager (projects), Goa, Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), Sashibhusan Sahoo, and senior officials of various departments of SWR accompanied the CRS during the inspection.

Sources said that once the CRS submits its inspection report, SWR will act on the suggestions and carry out improvements, if any, recommended by the CRS before commissioning the second track. The second track, sources said, is likely to be commissioned shortly.

SWR has already scheduled the work of switching over of the train signaling system from single track mode to double track between October 3 and October 10 ahead of the commissioning of the Margao – Chandor – Curchorem (Sanvordem) double tracked route.

Members of Sanvordem-Curchorem Rail Consumers Association, Devanand Bhandari and Ashish Karmali, were present at the Curchorem railway station during the commencement of the CRS inspection Senior citizen, Belinio Fernandes,urged the Railways to extend the canopy of platform no. 2 of Curchorem station for the convenience of elderly passengers before commissioning of the second track.
