AIIMS to develop messaging app for internal communication

NEW DELHI: With an aim to cut delays in transmission of messages within the institutes’s closed group, the AIIMS authorities have decided to establish an internal message communication application-based system, which incidentally will also have the capability to restrict personal use of mobile phones during working hours.

In an official communication, the director stated that presently official communications are sent through emails, e-office or personally through phone calls which requires time and effort and inadvertently lead to a delay in communication.

“An efficient, safe and robust messaging system for quick communication will help in improving responsiveness, collaboration and coordination among various stakeholders especially during emergency situations,” it stated, adding that a communication system that allows authorised users to send and receive bulk messages in real time needs to be established.

Defining the features of the application-based system, officials said it should run on Android and IOS devices, similar to popular instant messaging platforms being commonly used, allow users to send and receive instant messages for prompt and secure communications regarding patient care activities, official communications. Also, user friendly, accessible and able to communicate with a large number of users at any given time and robust and safe from cyber security threats. Besides, data must be stored on Indian servers as per existing guidelines of Government of India.

A nine-member committee formed to finalise the service provider has been asked to request an expression of interest in this regard within 7 days from experienced government organisations, public sector undertakings or autonomous bodies/organisations under government of India with a proven track record in providing and maintaining message communication systems for large organisations. Fully functional solution should be delivered within 3 months.

The app would also have a feature which will enable AIIMS to restrict use of personal phone calls of employees during office hours.
