While most smartphone users carry a single device, multi-device connectivity has many benefits.

-First, the feature offers users the flexibility to use the app on multiple devices.

-Secondly, there’s easy access to chat since transferring data from the old device to a new one could be tiring and cumbersome.

-Third, each device works individually, meaning you can leave one smartphone at home and carry the secondary device to still use WhatsApp with the same mobile number (as long as there’s internet).

-It also means if your primary phone does not have the internet, the second device can still run WhatsApp and refresh chats or calls.

-What are the limitations of WhatsApp multi-device support?

There are some obvious limitations. Firstly, your primary WhatsApp account is limited to one phone only. It means you cannot use your secondary device to link to another account. Additionally, some notifications may arrive late. You may also face problems loading some old chats.

-Does this solve the problem of losing chats on new phones?

No. If you change your smartphone, WhatsApp needs to be set on the new device again. Yes, there’s a chance of losing old chats and media. However, you must use Google Drive to back up old chats and media files (Android). With this, you can retrieve old data on the new phone.

If you use an iPhone, backup WhatsApp data on iCloud.
