Nokia 106 4G, Nokia 105 with in-built UPI payment option launched in India, price starts at Rs 1,299

Nokia brand licensee HMD Global has launched two new feature phones, Nokia 105 (2023) and Nokia 106 4G, in India. The duo include the traditional T9 keypads but also come with an inbuilt UPI 123PAY functionality to help users make UPI payments. Apart from the payment option, the company promises days of battery life with standard usage, though the charging is still limited via a Micro USB port. The phones are already available to buy in India.

Nokia 105 (2023) and Nokia 106 4G prices and availability

Nokia 105 and Nokia 106 4G are available in India starting today, May 18 for Rs 1,299 and Rs 2,199, respectively. The Nokia 105 will be offered in Charcoal, Cyan and Red colour options, while the Nokia 106 4G comes in Charcoal and Blue variants.

Starting with the UPI 123PAY on both new Nokia phones, the option by NPCI that overseas UPI ecosystem in India, lets users make digital payments safely and securely. 

The company states that with UPI 123PAY, users will be able to undertake a host of transactions based on four technology alternatives, such as calling an IVR (interactive voice response) number, app functionality in feature phones, missed call-based approach and proximity sound-based payments. -IVR-based payments: Users can make payments by calling an IVR number and following the instructions.

-App-based payments: Users can download a UPI 123PAY app from their feature phone’s app store.

-Missed call-based payments: Users can make payments by dialling a missed call to a specific number and following the instructions.

-Proximity sound-based payments: Users can make payments by holding their feature phone near a merchant’s device that supports proximity sound-based payments.

Naturally, for the feature to work, users need to create a UPI ID linked to the savings bank account. The company is also partnering with Gupshup to help users make UPI payments seamlessly.

Additionally, the Nokia 106 4G  features an IPS display with better colour reproduction. The Nokia 105 is equipped with an upgraded 1000mAh battery, 25 per cent larger than its predecessor, and the Nokia 106 4G has an increased 1450mAh battery.

Both come loaded with standard feature phone tools, including wireless FM radio. The Nokia 106 4G has an in-built MP3 player as well. The new feature phones come weeks after the company launched its premium Snapdragon 695 SoC-powered X30.
