Use Google? According to court order, Google owes you around Rs 631: Here is how to claim it

Users who used Google and clicked on search results between 2006 and 2013 will be able to claim some amount of money from the company. But why? Well, a class action lawsuit claims that Google shared the search history of users with third-party websites without their consent, which has led the company to pay for the settlement of this case. Though, the tech giant has refuted all the claims and asserted that it didn’t share information for users.

Google also said that the $23 million that it has agreed to pay to get rid of the case is not an admission of wrongdoing and its just a settlement amount. So, if you used Google searches during the above-mentioned time period, then you would might be entitled to receive a cut in a $23 million settlement.

Who all are eligible to claim money from Google’s $23 million settlement?

If you used Google Search and also clicked on the search result links provided by the company between October 26, 2006 and September 30, 2013, then you should be able to claim the money. Users who want to claim their money are being called as the Settlement class members and they have time until July 31 to decide whether to participate in this.

How do I submit a claim?

Those who want to opt out of this settlement or claim the money need to visit refererheadersettlement.com website. The process is pretty simple and you don’t need to do much.

People who are not interested in claiming the money via this settlement can click on the Exclusion Form page on the above-mentioned website to register for receiving a Class Member ID.

Those who want to opt into the settlement can simply click on the Registration Form page > fill all the details and submit it to receive a Class Member ID on your email id provided in your registration form. After this, you can visit the Submit Claim page to fill in your Class Member ID information and submit the form to claim the money.

How much is the payment for?

Based on the existing details provided by other reports, each person who gets approved will be eligible to receive around $7.70, which is roughly Rs 630 in India when converted.

What to keep in mind?

The settlement is yet to be finalized and the approval hearing for the same is currently scheduled for October 12, which is a few months away.
