EPFO higher pension deadline on July 11: Check FULL LIST of documents needed to avail scheme

EPFO higher pension scheme: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the deadline to apply for a higher pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) to July 11. The social security organisation has clearly stated that this will be the last such extension. In other words, this is the last chance to opt for a higher pension. Those unable to apply by the due date may miss the opportunity to claim this.

Basics of application for higher pension

According to Economic Times, one must keep their Unique Account Number (UAN), Aadhaar card number, and Aadhaar linked mobile EPS numbers of all previous organisations handy. It is imperative to have the date of joining EPS and the date of exit from EPS for each organisation with you for the purposes of this application.

Radhika Viswanathan, executive director, Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP, told ET that as a minimum requirement, an applicant must upload the joint request and undertaking of employer under paragraph 26(6) of the EPF Scheme, 1952, if it is available with them.

Additionally, while submitting the application for higher pension, uploading a copy of the PF passbook (as available), and a self-declaration stating that the member would pay the differential amount and interest through their last employer (in case of a shortfall) is essential.

Joint request proof

For those who do not have permission under para 26(6) of the EPF scheme, the EPFO has allowed the submission of the joint option application without mandating such proof. Vaibhav Bhardwaj, Partner, IndusLaw, listed out certain alternative documents that can be submitted in this regard:

  1. Wage details presented by the employer with applications for validation of joint options.
  2. Any authenticated salary slip/letter from the employer.
  3. Copy of joint request and undertaking from the employer.
  4. Letter from the PF office issued before November 4, 2022, indicating PF contribution on higher wages.

“In the absence of alternate documentary proof, the PF passbook could be uploaded to substantiate the fact that PF was contributed on higher wages, as prescribed,” Viswanathan told ET.
