India’s richest person Mukesh Ambani brought a massive change in Indian telecom sector by launching Reliance Jio in 2016 and Mukesh Ambani is now gearing up to make a splash in the field of consumer internet as well. According to reports, Reliance Jio is likely to launch its Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) device Jio AirFiber during the festive season. Its price could be 20 percent less than other companies, reported ET. Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani is set to address the company’s AGM on August 29 and it is expected that Ambani would make an announcement regarding the launch of FWA during the AGM. It is to be noted that Reliance Jio is the largest telecom company in the country.

According to ET report, Jio has started consumer trials of the device in cities where its 5G rollout has been completed. Sources said that the company has also given devices to select users so that it can be fully tested before launch. Jio’s FWA device will use carrier aggregation technology, which will create a data pathway using different 5G airways. Jio had bought spectrum in 700 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz last year. Notably, Reliance is yet to make any official comment in this matter.

Reliance Jio’s main competitor Bharti Airtel launched its FWA Xstream AirFiber in Mumbai and Delhi few weeks ago. The cost of Airtel’s device is Rs 2500. Its subscription is Rs 799 per month. Airtel is currently offering six months subscription and for this users are being charged Rs 7300.

According to experts, since Airtel has already launched its device, it is likely that Jio may offer some discount or give free trial option to its consumers. Reliance had talked about FWA offering during its last AGM too. In 2022, there were 100 million FWAs in the world and it is estimated to reach 300 million by the end of 2028 and around 80 percent of these devices will use 5G technology.
