UPI’s New Feature Enabling Payments Despite No Money In Account To Be Introduced Soon

UPI recently revealed a whole lot of features in its usage to make payments more streamlined and easy.

UPI or Unified Payment Interface is the most popular and convenient mode of payment in the country right now. It is a digital method of transferring money through a QR code. According to reports, a new feature has been added to the UPI payment method.

New UPI features developed by NPCI or the National Payments Corporation of India, were launched on Wednesday by the Governor of RBI Shaktikanta Das. The new features include Credit Line on UPI, UPI Lite X, Tap & Pay, and Hello! UPI, and BillPay Connect. The announcement was made at the Global Fintech Fest 2023.

On Monday, the central bank announced credit lines on UPI, which aims to promote financial inclusion. The credit lines would be pre-sanctioned from the banks via UPI for the customers. Even if anyone does not have money in their bank account, they can make payments using the credit line. As per reports, only select banks and apps are offering this option.

The UPI Lite X is for offline payments, it is an update of the UPI Lite feature launched last year. Through this feature, you can send and receive money offline, make sure that you have a device that has Near Field Communication (NFC).

The UPI Tap and Pay was introduced to increase the usage of QR codes and NFC technology. With this, the customers will be able to make payments at merchant locations using NFC-enabled QR codes.

The Hello UPI feature would enable users to make payments through conversations, meaning one can initiate payments by speaking via UPI applications and telephone calls. At the moment, the feature is only available in Hindi and English, it is expected to be made available in other regional languages soon. Using their voices, the customers can make transactions and transfer money.

Bharat BillPay, a subsidiary of NPCI has introduced BillPay Connect. This feature will let the user pay their bill by sending a high in the message chats. And the users who do not have a smartphone or mobile data can pay bills through a miss call.
