Aadhaar Card Scam: Avoid Big Fraud, Lock It Before It’s Too Late

New Delhi: A new scam has landed in the market of frauds, where scammers have found a loophole in the Aadhaar-enabled Payment System (AePS). The scam can lead your bank account to zero balance, without the scope of OTP authentication. No, you won’t even get SMS notification from the bank when your money is getting debited, which makes the scam even worse. In the fraud, the scammers use fingerprint details of the Aadhaar card users to steal their money, with the help of your Aadhaar Card number and name of bank where you have an account.

Scammers steal Aadhaar card numbers from photocopy shops, cyber cafes, etc. and then stalk people to obtain their Bank name. To gain access to victim’s biometrics, fingerprint data is stolen from registry offices or other places. These fingerprints are then used to attempt transactions using AePS and at this stage, victim’s money gets stolen.

To be safe from scams like these, Aadhaar card users should lock their biometric data by using mAadhaar app or the UIDAI website. The Aadhaar card user’s biometric data is unlocked by default as AePS is enabled for all Aadhaar card holders by default.
