Amazon India Sees Biggest Ever 48 Hours of Shopping With Record 9.5 Crore Customer Visits

Amazon India witnessed the biggest ever 48 hours of shopping with a record 9.5 crore customer visits. Prime members shopping spiked 18 times in the first 24 hours of prime early access, making it the highest ever, Amazon said in a press statement.

“The first 48 hours of Amazon Great Indian Festival 2023 has been absolutely remarkable! We are elated to witness the biggest ever opening with record customer visits, and highest number of Prime members shopping during the 24 hours of Prime Early Access,” said Manish Tiwary, Vice President & Country Manager, India Consumer Business, Amazon.

“I’m thrilled to share our customer transactions and orders were the highest ever for Amazon.in, along with highest seller participation, and most product launches from top brands.   • More than 80% customers came from non-metro cities
  • More than 10 lakh customers received same-day delivery across pan India
  • Best-ever start to the event, with thousands of sellers achieving their highest-ever single day sales; with over 65% of the overall participating sellers hailing from tier 2-3 cities; more than 35% increase in small and medium businesses securing sales during the first 48 hours
  • Most preferred smartphone brands were OnePlus, Samsung, and Apple amongst others. Customer purchased more than 100 OnePlus smartphones every minute in the first 48 hours for the sale (2.5x more than 2022). Samsung drove premium phone demand, with their flagship Galaxy S Series growing a 3x over the last year
  • Highest ever sign-ups on Amazon Pay UPI in the first 48 hours; partnering with India’s largest bank SBI, more than 35 crore Indians will have access to Instant Bank Discount offers on SBI Credit and Debit cards; customers could avail 10% Instant Discount* Up to INR 33,000 on SBI Credit and Debit Cards & EMI transactions
  • Customers booked flights across 200+ cities, and hotels across 260+ cities; 2.5x increase in flight bookings in the first 48 hours compared to last year
  • More than 5,000 new products launched across categories such as smartphones, laptops, TVs, fashion and beauty, home décor, appliances, furniture, groceries and more

Amazon Pay UPI sign-ups grew the highest ever at 37% YoY since its launch, the press release said. “India flew with Amazon Pay and received more than 2.5x increase in flight bookings. The Amazon Pay ICICI Co-Branded Credit Card usage grew by 65% giving customers 5% unlimited cashback rewards.”

Giving details of the smartphone sales, Amazon said: “Prime Members purchased more than more than 75 smartphones per second in the first hour of sale during Prime Early Access. Four out of every five smartphones sold in the first 48 hours were 5G ready.”
