“There is nothing left to prove that this is a government by the corrupt, for the corrupt and for the corrupt’ and demanded Rajegowda be sacked from the post immediately,” BJP said in an X (formerly Twitter) post.

Karnataka Congress MLA from Sringeri, TD Rajegowda sparked a row earlier this week after saying he still pays money to get work done.

Speaking at a ‘Jana samparka’ programme at Kere and Nemmaru Gram Panchayat limits in Sringeri taluk, the Congress MLA targeted officials accused of seeking bribes and said, “If the work is done within the time frame, then I pay. There is a difference between bribe and paying tips. People in Malnad are friendly and offer tips if their work is done on time.”

“Officials should not discriminate between rich and poor. One should maintain dignity and ensure that the poor do not undergo injustice,” he added.

BJP reacted to Rajegowda’s statement saying the MLA himself had accepted corruption and demanded Rajegowda be sacked immediately.

“MLAs must also be bribed to work at this ATM Sarkara. This is Congress MLA T D Rajegowda himself. A fact that Rajegowda himself has admitted. There is nothing left to prove that this is a government by the corrupt, for the corrupt. Since the Supreme Court has said that circumstantial evidence is enough to conclude bribery, Sringeri MLA T. D. Rajegowda should be sacked from the post of MLA immediately,” an X (formerly Twitter) by BJP Karnataka said.

Rajegowda later clarified his stance and said his statements were in the context of asking officials not to harass people and not to collect bribes. “If officials complete work immediately, then they will give tips with love,” he added.
