“Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.22.9 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a new feature to hide locked chats on the chat list,” WABetaInfo reported.

As per the report, a new option is in development and it will allow users to better hide their locked chats. Currently, the entry point to access the list of locked chats is always visible in the chat list where there is at least one protected conversation, potentially allowing anyone with access to the phone to understand the presence of locked conversations.

After enabling this feature, users will be able to remove the entry point and making the list of locked chats visible by entering the secret code into the search bar, it said.

“Implementing the feature to hide the entry point to open locked chats and integrating a secret code feature to access the list of locked chats will definitely improve user privacy,” WABetaInfo said.

The report suggested that users can have sensitive or confidential conversations that they want to keep hidden from prying eyes. By hiding the entry point to locked chats, it becomes more difficult for anyone with access to the phone to even realise that locked chats exist, and this will significantly enhance the privacy of these conversations.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also rolling out the ability to use multiple accounts on the same device. Meta has officially confirmed that the feature is rolling out to Android users in the coming weeks and months.

Features like this are handy for people using dual-SIM phones which is predominantly the case for WhatsApp users in markets like India.
