How Rajasthan’s Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Swasthya Yojana Sets A New Standard In Healthcare

Ashok Gehlot, the outgoing Chief Minister of Rajasthan, inaugurated the Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Swasthya Yojana in May 2021 to ensure that healthcare is accessible for everyone in the state.

In a bid to make healthcare facilities accessible to all in Rajasthan, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated the Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Swasthya Yojana in May 2021. Recognising the rising unaffordability of healthcare in India, the scheme aims to provide affordable health insurance policies and cost-effective treatment packages, especially targeting the economically weaker sections of society.

Under the Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Swasthya Yojana, families receive health insurance coverage worth lakhs of rupees, encompassing diseases and accidents. This government-run initiative has become the most popular health scheme in the state, offering an annual benefit ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, with the possibility of an increase to Rs 50 lakh.

What sets this scheme apart is its comprehensive coverage, spanning around 1,576 medical procedures, and its flexibility, allowing beneficiaries to avail medical treatment in both private and government hospitals. The affordability of the scheme is a key highlight, with an annual premium as low as Rs 850, equating to just Rs 70.8 per month.

Commencing in 2021, the Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Swasthya Yojana initially offered health insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family, subsequently increasing it to Rs 10 lakh in the following year. The government also pledged Rs 5 lakh for accident treatment. In 2023, the coverage was further expanded to Rs 25 lakh, with an additional Rs 5 lakh for accident insurance.

This healthcare initiative provides eligible families with a cashless treatment benefit of Rs 25 lakh, covering critical illnesses such as black fungus, cancer, COVID-19, dialysis, and organ transplantation across all government hospitals in the state. The annual renewal of the policy ensures continued coverage.

Key benefits of the Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Swasthya Yojana include coverage of medical expenses five days before and fifteen days after discharge, the option to seek treatment in government and private hospitals, and the provision of cashless medical services, eliminating upfront payments. The scheme’s extensive coverage also encompasses a diverse range of medical procedures, including major treatments.
