The Nissan X-Trail has been spotted unmasked in Chennai, near the Japanese automaker’s plant. MotorBeam spotted the latest generation model’s prototype, which was completely devoid of camouflage.

The Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) was spotted without any covers, in contrast to earlier sightings of the X-Trail on Indian roads, when it was completely camouflaged. Even test plates were visible on the unmarked Nissan X-Trail, suggesting that Nissan may be nearing the end of its testing of the midsize SUV on Indian roads and may soon launch it.

Recent reports suggest that the Nissan X-Trail seen in recent sightings aligns with the fourth-generation model unveiled by the Japanese manufacturer in India last year. This unveiling took place alongside the Qashqai and Juke SUVs during a public event. At the time, Nissan had announced the impending arrival of the X-Trail in India in the following months. Despite this initial announcement, over a year has elapsed, and the launch of the fourth-generation X-Trail in the country is still pending.

According to Cartoq, the 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol-electric hybrid powertrain of the Nissan X-Trail was shown in India in 2022, and its arrival in the country was confirmed with this configuration. We anticipate that the X-Trail spied in India this time was the same ePower petrol-electric hybrid model. The image of the Nissan X-Trail spotted recently shows the hybrid SUV’s rear profile, which features a roof spoiler, muscular silver skid plate, and large multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Nissan has been operating solely on the backs of its lone offering, the Magnite since the Kicks SUV and Datsun brand of budget cars were discontinued. The Japanese manufacturer is reportedly working on several all-new products for the Indian market, one of which is the X-Trail.

In addition to the X-Trail, Nissan is expected to launch in the coming months a compact MPV based on the Renault Duster and a midsize SUV based on the recently unveiled all-new Renault Duster.

When it is released in India, the Nissan X-Trail will compete with vehicles such as the Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq, and Toyota Fortuner. It is expected to cost between Rs 40 and 45 lakh.
