According to the forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a predicted wet spell over Northwest and adjacent Central India from December 30 to January 2.

Rainfall across India

The IMD’s forecast indicates that due to robust Northeasterly winds, Coastal Tamil Nadu is expected to experience a new episode of light to moderate rainfall from December 30, to January 1.

In the Northwest India, a fresh Western Disturbance is anticipated to impact the area starting from December 29.  Its interaction with lower-level easterly winds is likely to induce a Wet Spell over Northwest and adjoining Central India from December 30 to January 2.

The agency also said that on December 27, and 28, there is a likelihood of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. In its December 24 press release, the IMD said over the next few days, Northeast India may experience light to moderate rainfall at isolated places.

Dense fog in Haryana, UttarPradesh, Rajasthan

As per the predictions, from December 25 to 27, dense to very dense fog conditions are expected to persist in the morning hours in isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana, and East Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, dense fog is anticipated over Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh today. Dense fog conditions are likely to continue in the morning hours in isolated pockets over West Uttar Pradesh from December 25 to 27, Gangetic West Bengal on December 25, Odisha on December 25 and 26, Rajasthan on December 26, Madhya Pradesh on December 26 and 27, Punjab and Haryana on December 28 and 29, and over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during December 27 to 29.

Changes in minimum temperatures

Northwest and adjoining Central India can expect a decrease in minimum temperatures by 2-4°C over the next couple of days, with no significant change thereafter, the IMD said.

In East India, minimum temperatures are likely to decrease by about 2°C over the next 2 days, with no significant change expected thereafter. “No significant change in Minimum Temperatures likely over rest parts of the country during next 4-5 days,” IMD said in the December 25 release.
